The Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust (ICRMT) has awarded a Safety Grant to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for a recent technology upgrade inside the county jail, focused on improving inmate safety.

The new system allows Correctional Officers to remotely monitor health metrics using FDA-approved technology that can quickly alert staff to any potential medical distress involving individuals in custody. Jail officials say the equipment has already been installed and is currently being used by correctional staff.

The upgrade is intended to enhance response times and improve overall inmate medical oversight within the facility.
