Reports out of Mt. Carmel say 35 year old Paul DeWeese is facing several felony and misdemeanor charges after Wabash county authorities allegedly discovered cannabis amounting to over 11 pounds and a fortified residence during an investigation.
Wabash County State’s Attorney Kelli Storckman filed the charges against DeWeese, the report said. DeWeese faces charges of possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver, a Class X felony. Prosecutors alleged that he possessed over 5000 grams, or more than 11 pounds, of a substance containing cannabis with the intent to deliver. He also faces charges of criminal fortification of a residence, a Class 3 felony, for allegedly maintaining a residence at 818 Mulberry Street in Mt. Carmel in a fortified condition to prevent lawful entry by law enforcement or others, knowing the residence was being used for the unlawful delivery, storage, and trafficking of cannabis. Other charges against DeWeese include domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. He’s accused of knocking his wife to the ground and dragging her by her neck into the residence. He also faces two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, both class A misdemeanors.
DeWeese made a court appearance Thursday in Wabash County Circuit Court for a first appearance on the charges. He remains in custody of the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department. A preliminary hearing is set for July 20th, with a pretrial conference August 17th, and a jury trial, which is set for September 8th.
