Gasoline and diesel prices have declined for the fifth consecutive week as millions of Americans prepare to travel for the Independence Day holiday.
According to AAA, the national average price for regular gasoline stood at $3.91 per gallon Thursday, down from $4.50 a month ago. Diesel fuel averaged $4.95 per gallon, compared to $5.59 last month.
Despite the recent decline, fuel prices remain higher than they were a year ago, when regular gasoline averaged $3.22 per gallon and diesel averaged $3.71.
The drop in prices coincides with lower crude oil costs, as Brent crude has fallen back to levels seen before the recent conflict involving Iran.
