Visitors planning a trip to Rend Lake over the Independence Day holiday weekend will receive free admission to several recreational areas.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced it will waive day-use fees at more than 2,800 recreation areas nationwide, including Rend Lake, from July 3 through July 5 as part of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
The fee waiver applies to boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at Rend Lake and other participating Corps recreation sites.

The waiver does not include camping fees, camping-related services, group picnic shelters, specialized facilities or fees associated with scheduled events.

The Corps says the initiative is designed to encourage families to enjoy public recreation areas while celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
