The Illinois State Police has released the results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement, or ACE, patrols conducted during June in Marion, Wabash, Hamilton, Effingham, and Wayne counties.
According to Troop 9 Commander Lieutenant Bruce Waggoner, the patrols focused on detecting and preventing impaired driving, along with violations involving the illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol and drugs.
During the enforcement campaign, troopers issued four DUI citations and 11 additional alcohol- or drug-related citations. Officers also cited one occupant restraint violation, 17 registration offenses, 12 driver’s license violations, two insurance violations, and 40 speeding offenses.
In total, state police made 40 arrests or issued citations and handed out 111 written warnings.
Illinois State Police say alcohol and drug impairment contribute to an estimated 47 percent of all fatal traffic crashes in Illinois. The ACE patrols are funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation and are aimed at removing impaired drivers from the road to improve public safety.
