A major milestone has been reached for the W2E water system, as officials signed construction contracts Wednesday morning for a new water treatment plant to be built north of Grayville.
The total cost of the project is just over $23.28 million. More than $11.2 million of that cost will be covered through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, significantly reducing the local share of the project.
Construction is scheduled to begin on August 14, 2026, with completion expected by November 7, 2027.
Once completed, the new water treatment plant is expected to enhance the reliability and long-term capacity of the W2E water system, serving communities throughout the region.
