The National Weather Service in Paducah says Southern Illinois can expect daily chances for showers and thunderstorms through next weekend, with the greatest likelihood of rain from Thursday night through Friday night.
Some of the storms could become strong, with the potential for damaging winds.
High temperatures will generally remain in the mid to upper 80s, which is near or slightly below average for early July. However, Thursday is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with highs in the lower 90s and heat index values climbing into the triple digits.
Forecasters say a persistent upper-level low-pressure system will keep the weather pattern unsettled, with most showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and evening hours.
