A status hearing was held Thursday morning in Richland County for 25-year-old Dylan M. Jones of Olney, who is charged in the deaths of 52-year-old John D. Jones Jr. and 73-year-old Deborah J. Jones.

Jones is charged with four counts of first-degree murder with intent to kill or do great bodily harm and two counts of first-degree murder with a strong probability of death or great bodily harm.

According to court documents, investigators allege Jones struck John Jones Jr. in the head with a sharp object and fatally stabbed Deborah Jones.

During Thursday’s hearing, the court focused on Jones’ medication and the status of a court-ordered competency evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial. Defense counsel advised the court they are attempting to locate a qualified evaluator who can complete the examination sooner than the currently available timeframe of mid- to late August.

Another status hearing has been scheduled for August 13th as the case continues.
