Another period of hot and humid conditions is expected to develop in the southern Illinois region beginning late in the weekend and continue into early next week. High temperatures into the mid 90s are possible by Monday.
Forecasters are expecting temperatures to pull back a bit by midweek, to around 90 degrees. No big rain chances are in the forecast for the coming week. For those who are not hoping for a lot of hot weather, there is a little good news. The latest six to ten and 8 to 14 day outlooks are indicating near normal temperatures and precipitation expected. The three to four week outlook, running from August 8th through 21st, shows equal chances for above or below normal temperatures and precipitation.
Area rivers are on the low side this morning. Here’s the latest stages: the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 5.5 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the stage is 4.92 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. At Carmi the stage is 3.16 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 5.02 feet, below the 15-foot flood stage. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 5.37 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 1.42 feet. Further south, the Ohio River at Old Shawneetown is below flood stage, at 19.18 feet.
