Harness racing made a successful return to the Edwards County Fair on Thursday afternoon, ending an 11-year absence from the fairgrounds. The races were originally scheduled for Sunday but were postponed because of rain. Despite the delay, a near-capacity crowd turned out Thursday to welcome back an event that had been a staple of the Edwards County Fair for more than a century. A total of nine races were completed during the afternoon, with impressive performances on the track. Officials say three track records were broken, one track record was broken by Goomzilla, and three other races were completed in under two minutes. The strong turnout and exciting racing marked a successful comeback for one of the fair’s longest-standing traditions, with spectators enthusiastically welcoming harness racing back to the Edwards County Fair.
