The Illinois State Police has opened a new Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) kiosk at its Troop 9 headquarters in Effingham, offering in-person assistance for Illinois residents with FOID cards and Concealed Carry Licenses (CCLs).
The kiosk is designed to help individuals who have difficulty using the online FOID and CCL system or who do not have internet access.
The new kiosk is located at Illinois State Police Troop 9, 401 Industrial Drive, Suite A, Effingham, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Services available at the kiosk include assistance with new applications, renewals, and name or address changes; taking and uploading photos for applications; correcting rejected applications; submitting Firearm Disposition Records; and surrendering FOID or concealed carry cards when required. A public computer is also available for customers to complete online applications and update existing accounts.
State police note that because representatives spend considerable time assisting each customer, visitors may be asked to return later if demand is high.
The Effingham location joins existing FOID kiosks in Springfield and Du Quoin. Additional kiosks in Collinsville and Lockport are expected to reopen this fall.
Illinois residents may continue to apply for, renew, and update FOID cards and concealed carry licenses online through the Illinois State Police Firearms Services website.
