The Wayne City Village Board voted Monday night to postpone action on a proposed gas rate increase after trustees said additional information was needed before making a decision.
Trustee and Treasurer Roger Noe made the motion to table the proposal for one month, citing unanswered questions about minimum charges for inactive gas meters and requirements involving gas line safety risers. The motion was approved. Before tabling the rate discussion, the board voted 3-0 to purchase an industrial hydrovacuum system from Vermeer Midwest for $75,914. Trustee Gary Cline abstained, while Trustees Tim Piper and Stephen Buxton were absent. The cost will be split evenly among the village’s gas, water, sewer and street funds. A new doorway will also be added to the village odorizer building so the equipment can be stored indoors.
The board approved a $1,570 donation to the Wayne City Ruritans to help fund this year’s Bean Days celebration on September 19th and approved the street closure ordinance for the annual parade. Wayne City Matters representative Connie McNeil announced that funding is being raised for a new pickleball court at Wayne City Park. About $12,500 has already been pledged toward the estimated $17,000 project, and the village agreed to contribute $1,000. Trustees also approved expanding Halloween festivities to include All Hallows Eve on October 30th in addition to the traditional celebration on October 31st.
The board also discussed updating and codifying village ordinances for online public access but tabled the matter pending review by the village attorney.
