Edwards County Clerk and Recorder Melanie Knight is encouraging eligible high school students to consider serving as student election judges.
Under Illinois election rules, an election authority may appoint a student who is not yet eligible to vote to serve as an election judge if certain requirements are met.
Students must be U.S. citizens and juniors or seniors in good standing at a public or private secondary school. They must have a cumulative grade point average equivalent to at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Students must also receive written approval from their school principal and a parent or legal guardian, successfully complete the required election judge training course and meet other qualifications for serving as an election judge.
