The Hamilton County Board discussed upcoming road projects, county finances and tax sales during its latest meeting.

During the Road Commissioner meeting, officials said improvements to Dale Road are scheduled to begin August 31 after weather delayed earlier work. Completion is expected by mid-September. The Roseville Road project is expected to begin around September 14.

A bridge on Army Navy Road will also be replaced through the Township Bridge Program at no cost to the township. Construction of the county’s new highway facility continues despite weather delays, with officials hoping for completion before December.

During the County Board meeting, local 4-H members discussed their experiences and accomplishments at the Illinois State Fair.

Finances were a major focus as officials work on the next county budget. The board discussed declining revenues and possible spending reductions as it attempts to avoid additional pressure on property tax rates.

The board also approved an ordinance assigning a trustee to oversee county tax sales. Officials said the change could reduce county liability and administrative work while lowering redemption rates for taxpayers.

In other action, the board approved a $2,500 sponsorship for the 2026 McLeansboro Fall Festival and approved election judges who will serve from 2026 through 2028.
