The Fairfield Community High School Board of Education approved a $1 million transfer for ongoing district renovations and placed its tentative fiscal year 2027 budget on public review during Thursday night’s meeting.

The board approved a resolution to abate $1 million from Working Cash Bonds to the Capital Projects Fund 60 to pay for current district renovation work. Board members also approved the tentative FY27 budget for a 30-day public review period.

Superintendent Bobby Wells reported enrollment has increased to 460 students.

Wells said renovations to the band and choir area are substantially complete, with only sound panels and decorative graphics remaining. That work is expected to be completed within the next month. Work on the special education office and the football field public address system has also been completed.

Renovations to the school greenhouse are expected to begin in the coming weeks. Wells said the project should take about a week once work begins, although some concrete work will depend on weather conditions.

The board will hold a strategic planning meeting August 27 at 4 p.m. to discuss Phase 2 of the district’s renovation plans, including the science lab and Family and Consumer Sciences lab. That work is part of the district’s current request for proposals and is expected to begin in late spring 2027.

Wells said the board will also discuss the district’s long-term vision for its buildings and grounds and how to use the remaining proceeds from the Working Cash Bonds.

In other action, the board approved PRESS Policy 122 and employed Abbigail McGuire as an associate volunteer girls tennis coach.
