Illinois State Police have released new details in the death of a 1-year-old Du Quoin girl, saying the child suffered severe burns over a large portion of her body and was not taken for medical treatment.

ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7 was called Aug. 17 to investigate the child’s death in the 700 block of West Park Street.

The child was the daughter of 28-year-old Amanda Russell and 34-year-old Michael Russell, both of Du Quoin.
Following the investigation, both parents were arrested. The Perry County State’s Attorney’s Office charged each with involuntary manslaughter, a Class 2 felony, and endangering the life or health of a child, a Class 3 felony.

Amanda Russell also faces a misdemeanor charge of solicitation to obstruct justice.

State Police said no additional information is being released at this time.
