Two people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Friday night on Interstate 64 in Wayne County.

Illinois State Police Troop 9 responded to the crash at approximately 7:12 p.m. on eastbound I-64 near milepost 109. Fairfield Rural Fire Department and Wayne County Ambulance personnel also responded.

According to a preliminary ISP investigation, an SUV rear-ended a pickup truck while both vehicles were traveling in the right lane.

The eastbound lanes of I-64 were shut down at 7:14 p.m. while emergency crews worked at the scene and troopers investigated. All lanes reopened at 10:09 p.m.

Two people were transported to Fairfield Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police say the driver of the SUV was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

No additional information was released.
