The 2026 Wayne County Crop Yield Tour held yesterday (Monday) is estimating a countywide average corn yield of 200 bushels per acre and soybean yield of 63 bushels per acre.
Wayne County Corn Growers Association representative Gregg Barnard said early planting contributed to strong yields in the southern part of the county, while spotty rainfall and areas of excessive rain held back crops in the north. Barnard said higher planting populations appear to be the strongest factor driving corn yields this year.
The southeast portion of Wayne County recorded the strongest estimates, with corn projected at 216 bushels per acre and soybeans at 71 bushels per acre.
The southwest followed at 211 bushels for corn and 64 for soybeans. Corn estimates dropped to 189 bushels in the northeast and 181 in the northwest.
Overall, the tour projected corn yields of 214 bushels per acre in southern Wayne County compared with 185 in the north.
Individual corn samples ranged from 168 to 226 bushels per acre, while soybean samples ranged from 53 to 72.
