Two Du Quoin parents charged in connection with the death of their 1-year-old daughter appeared in Perry County court Monday for detention hearings.
Amanda Russell, 28, and Michael Russell, 34, appeared in custody with attorneys. Prosecutors had filed petitions seeking to keep both defendants detained while their cases are pending.
Illinois State Police arrested the couple following their daughter’s Aug. 17 death at a home in the 700 block of West Park Street in Du Quoin.
Investigators say the child suffered severe burns over a large portion of her body and was not taken to a medical facility for treatment before her death.
Both parents are charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the life or health of a child. Amanda Russell also faces a misdemeanor charge of solicitation to obstruct justice.
State Police have not released information explaining how the child suffered the burns.
