One person was injured Saturday morning in a crash involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 70 near Effingham.
The Effingham Fire Department responded around 10:32 a.m. to westbound I-70 just east of Mile Marker 90. Firefighters arrived to find one tractor-trailer heavily engulfed in flames, with debris and cargo covering both westbound lanes.
Crews used water and firefighting foam to extinguish the fire. Diesel fuel and other vehicle fluids also spilled onto the roadway, although no hazardous cargo was reported.
Both drivers were evaluated by RuralMed EMS. One was taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, while the other declined transport.
Westbound I-70 was shut down at the I-57/I-70 split while emergency crews cleared debris and addressed the fuel and fluid spills.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
