RURAL FAIRFIELD MAN HELD ON ATTEMPTED MURDER, FIREARM CHARGES AFTER SHOOTING

A rural Fairfield man is being held in the Wayne County Jail following a Sunday morning shooting that left a woman hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were dispatched to a rural Fairfield residence at approximately 9 a.m. Sunday to conduct a welfare check.

Deputies made contact with 53-year-old Rawleigh L. Bailey of rural Fairfield and discovered a woman inside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Bailey was immediately taken into custody. The woman, whose name has not been released by authorities, was transported by medical personnel and was reported in stable condition.

Bailey is being held in the Wayne County Jail on preliminary charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Domestic Battery.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department is continuing the investigation with assistance from Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.

Fairfield Rural Fire Department first responders and Wayne County Ambulance personnel also responded to the scene.
