WAYNE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO PRESENT MAPLE HILL CEMETERY TOUR

By Mark Wells Aug 31, 2026 | 11:59 AM

The Wayne County Historical Society will present its annual “Voices of Our Past” Cemetery Tour at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield on Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12.

Tours will begin at 3:30 p.m. each day, with the final tour departing at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Fairfield Public Library and Uniquely Rustique.

This marks the fourth year for the event, which brings local history to life through six historical vignettes presented by volunteer actors portraying people buried at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitors will travel from one presentation to another aboard flatbed trailers pulled by tractors. Trailers will depart from the veterans area every 15 minutes, with each complete tour lasting approximately one hour.

Stories for the presentations are developed using documents, obituaries, newspapers, letters and photographs from the Wayne County Boggs Memorial archives.

Parking will be available just inside the cemetery gates.

Doug Aman, a member of the Wayne County Historical Society, is serving as chairman of this year’s event.
