Work continues on Mt. Carmel’s new aquatic center, with construction progressing and more than $100,000 in new donations and commitments recently received for the project.
Mayor Joe Judge told the Mt. Carmel City Council Monday that concrete is scheduled to be poured Thursday for the entry and concession areas. Crews will then begin interior painting in some areas, including the chemical room.
Rafters are expected to be installed within the next two to three weeks, followed by decking and roofing on the two buildings.
The new facility will also include reminders of Mt. Carmel’s former swimming pool. Wooden beams salvaged from the old bathhouse have been cut into boards that will be used for ceilings over the concession stand and entrance. Judge said the reclaimed wood will be clear-coated to preserve its natural appearance and will save the city money on materials.
A WPA plaque saved from the cornerstone of the former pool building will also be installed near the entrance to the new aquatic center.
Financial support for the project continues to grow. Judge said the city has received $105,000 in donations and commitments during the past two weeks, with more contributions expected.
The city is also revising its naming-rights sponsorship information after several opportunities were purchased. Updated sponsorship options will soon be made available to individuals and businesses interested in contributing to the project.
