A Carmi man has filed notice that he intends to plead guilty to a federal firearms charge stemming from allegations involving stolen guns.
Daniel K. Poshard, 34, is accused of stealing several firearms from a White County victim and attempting to sell them at a pawn shop in Evansville, Indiana. The Indiana case resulted in Poshard being taken into federal custody.
A federal indictment in the Southern District of Indiana charged Poshard with possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Authorities allege the stolen firearms included several pistols and rifles manufactured by Smith & Wesson, Daniel Defense, Remington, Glock, Intratec and Ruger.
Poshard has a previous felony conviction in White County, where he was sentenced to five years in prison for breaking into a Carmi building and stealing more than $10,000 worth of shoes being stored for the Carmi Christmas Elves Kicks for Kids program.
Poshard faces up to 40 years in federal prison in the firearms case.
Dates for his change-of-plea hearing and sentencing have not yet been set.
