The Fairfield Lady Mules Volleyball team traveled to Wayne City Thursday evening for a non-conference matchup with the Lady Indians and Fairfield swept all three levels. The Lady Mules freshman defeated Wayne City in 2 sets, 25-16 and 25-13. The JV squad came out ahead 25-7 and 25-23. The Lady Mules Varsity team finished out the night with a 2-set victory, 25-13 and 25-17.

(Champaign, IL) — Illinois is off to a winning start to the 2026 season. The Fighting Illini opened the season with 42-23 victory over University of Alabama-Birmingham at Gies Memorial Stadium last night. Collin Dixon posted his first-career multi-touchdown game with 70 yards on six catches and two receiving scores. Ca’Lil Valentine rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown in the win. (East Rutherford, NJ) — One member of the Giants is happy to still be on the football field. Running back Cam Skattebo revealed on Thursday that contemplated retiring last season. Skattebo suffered an open fracture of his right ankle in late October, and said he thought about retiring about a month into his recovery. The 24-year-old mentioned that the monotony of the recovery has reenergized him as a football player. New York hosts the Dallas Cowboys in Week One for Sunday Night Football at MetLife Stadium.

(Indianapolis, IN) — Former NFL quarterback and ex-Fox Sports broadcaster Mark Sanchez will plead guilty to charges related to a fight and stabbing last year. Court filings show the planned guilty plea, just one week before his trial was set to start in Indianapolis. Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call a Colts game in October last year, when he got into a violent fight with a truck driver. The man stabbed Sanchez, he says in self-defense. Sanchez was charged with battery and public intoxication. Sanchez was fired by FOX and is also being sued by the driver.

(Glendale, AZ) — Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson has a new contract as the team prepares for the regular season. Multiple sources report Wilson has agreed to a three-year, 75-million-dollar extension. The 26-year-old was entering the final year of his contract after setting career highs in catches, yards and touchdowns in 2025.

(Owings Mills, MD) — Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers is working his way into Week One shape after nursing an injury. Flowers practiced today for the first time in two weeks, and head coach Jesse Minter says the team’s goal is to have him ready for the season opener. The 25-year-old has also dealt with a quad bruise during training camp.

ESPN reports the 23-year-old has agreed to a five-year, 208-million-dollar rookie-scale extension. Thompson led the NBA in minutes played last season while averaging career highs in points, assists and steals. The deal takes up the same percentage of the Rockets’ salary cap as the extension signed by center Alperen Sengun in 2024.

Ryan Preece stole the last spot following his victory at Daytona last weekend, while Kyle Larson hopes to defend his title after winning it all last year. A total of 10 races will determine the champion.

Sorsby was blocked from entering the NFL’s supplemental draft this year, but will look to enter the 2027 draft. The four-part docuseries about Texas Tech football drops tomorrow on Paramount Plus.

(Undated) — The Southeastern Conference is suing LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin over the school’s effort to allow former NFL players to play college football this season. The federal complaint names LSU, its Board of Supervisors, University President Wade Rousse, Athletic Director Verge Ausberry, and Kiffin as defendants. The SEC alleged LSU conducted a deliberate campaign to recruit professional athletes, including players who signed NFL contracts. The conference is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief as a separate Louisiana court proceeding considers whether former Ole Miss and NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright can play. LSU is set to open its season Saturday night against Clemson.
