Fairfield 46, Eldorado 6
The Fairfield Mules Football team had their home-opener at the Trainyard Friday night for the Annual Wayne County Shrine Game. The Mules walked away the Wayne County Shrine Club Gregg Edwards Memorial Trophy with an impressive and emotional victory over the Eldorado Eagles, 46-6.
The Mules were led by Senior Running Back Cooper Berg who scored a touchdown 3-ways. Berg caught a short pass and ran 32 yards for his first touchdown, stripped the ball from Eldorado running bank Darin Sinks and ran it in for his 2nd touchdown, which was also the One Step Ahead & HME Defensive Play of the Game. Then, early in the 4th Quarter, Berg powered into the endzone a 3rd time on a 4-yard run. As a result of his impressive performance, Cooper Berg was named the Shriner’s Most Valuable Player of the Game.
The Mules also saw an impressive performance from the Vaughan’s Tire Offensive Player of the Game, Grant Otey who had 12 rushes for 111 yards and 1 Touchdown. The Peoples National Bank Offensive Play of the Game went to Breychan Kovacich who returned a 1st Quarter punt for an 80-yard touchdown. The Potts Family Pharmacy Defensive Player of the Game was Clinton Odell who had 7 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles. The Mules will be back in action next Friday on the road at Sesser-Valier-Waltonville
