By Mark Wells Sep 17, 2026 | 5:55 AM

The Hunters Feeding Illinois program is returning to Edwards, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash and Wayne counties for the 2026-2027 season.

University of Illinois Extension is currently seeking local meat processors interested in partnering with the program to process donated deer.

Among the requirements, participating processors must be inspected by a county health department, the Illinois Department of Public Health or the USDA. Processors must also carry general liability insurance coverage.

Local processors in the five-county area interested in learning more about participating are asked to contact the Edwards County Extension Office at 618-445-2934 by Wednesday, September 23rd.

Hunters Feeding Illinois provides an opportunity for donated deer to be processed for use in helping provide food to those in need.
