Florence Ethel McDaniel, 95 of Humble, Texas and formerly of Carmi, Illinois, passed on to heaven on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at her residence. Florence was born on Monday, July 6, 1931, in Bluford, Illinois, the daughter of Pauline and Victor Harris. She attended Crossville, Illinois High School. During her junior year of High School, she met Vergil McDaniel who had returned home from serving in the Navy, and they were married on December 28, 1948, and together their life of adventure began and continued for 78 wonderful years.
Florence was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother. Throughout their marriage and after Vergil’s retirement they traveled to 49 states, Canada, and the Caribbean. Florence was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church.
Florence also Known as “Flo” by all her friends, was preceded in death By, her parents, Pauline and Victor Harris, a son, Michael Steven McDaniel, a great-grandson and two brothers, Kenneth Harris and Don Harris.
Florence is survived by family members, husband, Vergil McDaniel; daughter, Vicki Shultz; son, Robert McDaniel; brother, Paul Harris; four grandchildren, Chris Knight, Robyn Distefano, Dale McDaniel, and Nicole Loyd; 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in the Chapel of Roberts and Cook Funeral Service, 101 Edgewood Lane, Carmi, Illinois with Doug Devore officiating. Burial will follow immediately at White County Memorial Gardens in Carmi. Family and Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Florence’s memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Carmi, Illinois and will be accepted by Roberts and Cook Funeral Service who has been entrusted with the arrangements
