The Fairfield Coin Club will hold its 56th Annual Coin Show and Auction on Sunday, October 11th at North Side Grade School in Fairfield.
Doors will open to the public at 9 a.m., with hourly door prizes beginning at 10 a.m. Auction lots will also go on display at that time.
Special awards and presentations are scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by the popular penny stacking contest at 1:30 p.m. The Junior Auction begins at 2 p.m., the regular auction at 2:30 p.m., and raffle winners will be drawn at 3 p.m.
This year’s annual show book is being dedicated in memory of five longtime club members — Otis Brach, Larry Easley, Diana Mayer, Harold Rush and Harold Karger. Club officials say each made lasting contributions to the organization through their participation, support and involvement in club activities.
The Fairfield Coin Club will also continue its tradition of supporting students at Frontier Community College. One of this year’s $500 scholarship recipients is Ava Isle, a 2026 Fairfield Community High School graduate who plans to earn an associate degree and pursue studies in agriculture. A second scholarship will be awarded later.
The club has held its regular meetings at Frontier Community College since 1990 and reports awarding $32,500 in scholarships over the years. The organization began in May 1967 with 21 charter members.
This year’s show will feature approximately 20 dealer tables, where visitors can buy, sell and trade coins and currency. Dealers will offer U.S. Mint and foreign coins, and attendees may also bring coins to be appraised or offered for sale.
Children age 14 and younger can participate in the penny stacking contest. Each participant receives 100 pennies and 10 minutes to build the tallest stack. Young collectors will also receive $60 in play money to use during the Junior Auction and can take home the items they successfully bid on.
Raffle prizes include a 1911-S $5 Gold Indian as the first prize, a 1914-D $2.50 Gold Indian as second prize, a five-ounce .999 silver U.S. map bar as third prize and several 2026 Silver Eagles. Tickets are six for $5 and are available from Fairfield Coin Club members.
Food will also be available, with the club serving barbecue, chili, desserts, chips and drinks.
The Fairfield Coin Club meets on the second Sunday of each month at Frontier Community College’s West Building, except for the October meeting at North Side Grade School. Membership is $2 per year and free for those age 16 and younger.
