Former Carterville teacher and football coach John “Jake” Wakey appeared in Williamson County court Wednesday in connection with nine counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Wakey appeared by Zoom for a preliminary hearing before Judge Michelle Shafer.
During the hearing, defense attorney Michael Malin requested a continuance following a recent discovery motion. Judge Shafer granted the request and scheduled Wakey’s next court appearance for December 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Wakey faces nine counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse stemming from allegations involving students more than a decade ago.
Court records indicate the alleged offenses occurred between September 2013 and February 2015.
The charges remain pending.
