An 18-year-old Gallatin County man has died from injuries sustained in a Wednesday afternoon traffic crash in White County.
Dawson Stacey of Ridgway was pronounced deceased by the White County Coroner’s Office after the pickup truck he was traveling in collided with a semi hauling grain.
Illinois State Police say troopers responded around 4:21 p.m. Wednesday to Illinois Route 141 near County Road 6. A preliminary investigation indicates the pickup was traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and collided with the eastbound semi.
The crash resulted in a large spill that required the highway to remain closed for several hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and authorities conducted their investigation. The roadway reopened around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Stacey was a 2026 graduate of Gallatin County High School, where he played varsity basketball. State Police say he was returning home from work at a manufacturing plant in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, when the crash occurred.
The Illinois State Police investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
Funeral arrangements for Stacey are pending.
