ELASTEC TO HOST OIL SPILL RESPONSE TRAINING ON WABASH RIVER

Elastec will host its annual River Spill Fall Inland Oil Spill Workshop in Carmi and New Harmony, Indiana, in early October, bringing participants from across the United States and several other countries to the region for specialized spill-response training.

The workshop begins October 6 in Carmi, followed by hands-on training October 7 and 8 along the Wabash River at New Harmony.

Elastec will also offer an additional Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation Level 2 training course October 5-8. The specialized program is designed for oil spill supervisors, responders and equipment operators.
On Wednesday, October 7, participants will conduct on-water exercises on the Wabash River near the Atheneum in New Harmony. Training will include deploying and retrieving containment booms, boom anchoring, operating oil skimmers and workboats, boat safety, boom repair and techniques for recovering oil from waterways.

The exercises will also feature Elastec’s newer AquaCoil and RC Skimmer equipment.

Cody Harris of the Whitewater Rescue Institute will lead exercises during the River Spill Fall workshop. Alejandro Roldán León and Tom Knasel will provide instruction for the OPRC Level 2 course.

Elastec says 32 participants from the United States, Nigeria, Ghana, Indonesia, Argentina, France, Brazil, Ireland and India are registered. Attendees represent spill-response companies, railroad, pipeline and energy companies and Elastec dealers. The workshop also qualifies for eight hours of HAZMAT refresher credit.

The public and media are invited to observe the workshop exercises beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, along the New Harmony riverfront.

Elastec is based in Carmi with a facility also in Fairfield and manufactures environmental equipment used for oil spill response, floating containment and other cleanup operations. The company’s products are distributed in 155 countries.
