Fairfield Memorial Hospital is encouraging women to schedule mammograms during October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
FMH offers 3-D mammography, also known as tomosynthesis, which provides layer-by-layer images of breast tissue. Hospital officials say the technology can provide greater accuracy, reduce exam time and make suspicious areas easier to detect.
During October, regular mammography hours will be Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday hours will vary, with appointments available from 8 a.m. to noon on October 8th and 22nd and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 1st, 15th and 29th.
FMH will also offer three Saturday clinics during the month. The first will be October 3rd in Fairfield, followed by October 10th at the Cisne Clinic and October 17th at the Carmi Clinic.
The first 150 patients who have a mammogram performed during October will receive a free gift.
No physician order is needed for patients over age 40. FMH says it must be at least one year and one day since a patient’s last mammogram. Patients should bring their insurance card, photo identification and their doctor’s contact information.
