HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:
On Friday night it was the battle of the unbeatens at the Trainyard as the 5-0 Fairfield Mules hosted the 5-0 Johnston City Indians. In a matchup that lived up to the hype, Johnston City eventually powered past Fairfield by a score of 28-12. Johnston City opened the scoring midway through the 1st Quarter, but the Mules answered back early in the 2nd Quarter with a 6-yard Touchdown pass from Alex Basnett to Breychan Kovacich. Johnston City followed the Mules touchdown with their own 3 minutes later to take a 14-6 lead into halftime.
The Mules came out of halftime and pulled within 2 points of Johnston City on a 1-yard Touchdown run by Cooper Berg. The Indians answered back with their own touchdown on the next series to extend their lead. Johnston City then took advantage of a Mules fumble on the ensuing kickoff and used their next series to cap off the scoring at 28-12.
The Vaughan’s Tire Offensive Player of the Game was Breychan Kovacich who had 3 receptions for 38 yards, including one for 29 yards, and 1 touchdown. The Peoples National Bank Offensive Play of the game was Cooper Berg’s 4th down run near the goal line to pick up a 1st down and extended the Mules drive that led to a Touchdown.
The Potts Family Pharmacy Defensive Player of the Game was Aiden King who had 8 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, and a sack. The One Step Ahead and HME Defensive Play of the game was a crucial sack by Braxton Marshel in the 3rd Quarter.
The Mules will be at home once again next Friday night for Homecoming versus the 5-1 Flora Wolves.
