HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL:
The Fairfield Lady Mules won a battle of unbeaten Black Diamond Conference rivals Tuesday night at the Mule Barn, sweeping Carmi-White County in the varsity match. The freshman teams split their two sets. Carmi-White County won the first 25-17 before Fairfield answered with a 25-17 win in the second. Fairfield also earned a two-set victory in the Junior Varsity match. The Lady Mules won the opener 25-15 and followed with a 25-22 victory.
Fairfield took the opening varsity set 25-14 before finishing off the Lady Bulldogs 25-17 in the second set.
The victory improves the Lady Mules to 21-5 overall and 4-0 in Black Diamond Conference play.
The Lady Mules will remain at home Thursday night for another Black Diamond Conference matchup against Edwards County.
Freshman, junior varsity and varsity matches are scheduled, with the freshman contest beginning at 5 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS GOLF:
Two Lady Mules golfers competed on Tuesday at the IHSA Class 1A Regional at Quail Creek Country Club in Robinson. FCHS Sophomore Amelia Hopfinger shot an 88 to finish 13th overall and qualify for the IHSA Class 1A Roxana Sectional on October 5th at Wood River. Sophomore Carly Colclasure also participated and shot a 119 to finish 54th.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber is recovering from surgery to repair a fractured skull. The team says the 24-year-old underwent the procedure on Sunday. Faber was hit in the head by a deflected puck during this past Friday’s exhibition game versus the Dallas Stars. There’s no timetable for his return to the lineup. Minnesota opens its season on Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
