Gold coins, vintage jewelry, silver and collectible baseball cards are among the unclaimed property being offered in an online auction through the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office.
The I-CASH auction runs through Sunday and includes a 1926 British Sovereign gold coin featuring King George V, three Egyptian leather jewelry boxes and baseball cards featuring Chicago greats Ryne Sandberg and Frank Thomas.
Other items include a 1986 American Eagle gold coin, gold jewelry, a 10-ounce .999 fine silver bar, Morgan silver dollars and $1 silver certificates from 1935 and 1957.
Baseball cards featuring Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Greg Maddux, Stan Musial and Nolan Ryan are also included.
State Treasurer Michael Frerichs said the auction provides an opportunity for collectors and others to purchase distinctive items while proceeds remain available for the property’s rightful owners.
The Treasurer’s Office receives unclaimed property after businesses and other organizations have been unable to locate owners for several years. That can include forgotten bank accounts, insurance proceeds, rebate cards and contents of safe deposit boxes.
The state’s in-person unclaimed property auction at the Illinois State Fair generated nearly $397,500 in sales this year.
