Robert Glenn Hines, 71, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Born in Carmi on December 9, 1954, he was the son of Grover Glenn and Gwendolen Eva (Greenacre) Hines. Robert graduated as valedictorian of Carmi High School in 1972. On August 6, 2011, he married Avis (Cook) Hines, with whom he shared more than 15 years of marriage. He was a member of Carmi Emmanuel Church. Robert’s passion was owning Hines Trucking for 46 years starting in 1980. Robert deeply valued the relationships he built with his customers and employees. He enjoyed auto racing, watching NASCAR, coaching Carmi middle school basketball, and attending his grandchildren’s events. Above all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife, Avis Hines of Carmi; children, Erica (Joe) Zieren and Matt (Whitney) Hines; stepchildren, Luke McPherson, Josh McPherson, and Angie Darnell; grandchildren, Johanna, Max, Eli, Ana, Cassie, Lucy, Dylan, Braydon, Breanna, Dustin, and Austin; four great-granddaughters; siblings, Edward (Deb) Hines and Elizabeth (Craig) Masterson; numerous nieces and nephews, along with honorary son, Chris (Amy) Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Gwendolen Hines.
Funeral Services for Robert Glenn Hines, 71, of Carmi will be held at 10:00 a.m. with an hour visitation before starting at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Carmi Emmanuel Church. Burial will follow in Big Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Carmi Emmanuel Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to the donor’s organization of choice and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821.
