Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias says the state’s Mobile DMV program has completed more than 60,000 transactions, bringing driver and vehicle services directly to communities across Illinois.
Since January 2023, the Secretary of State’s Office has conducted more than 1,700 Mobile DMV events and completed over 62,000 transactions.
Those services include issuing more than 50,000 REAL IDs, driver’s licenses and state identification cards, conducting approximately 2,600 road tests and processing more than 8,500 vehicle registration sticker transactions.
Giannoulias said the program is designed to make DMV services more convenient and accessible by bringing them directly to residents rather than requiring customers to travel to a permanent facility.
Some events use the Secretary of State’s self-contained DMV on Wheels units, which have onboard internet service and can be quickly established at designated locations. Other pop-up events are conducted at community locations without a mobile vehicle.
The Secretary of State’s Office partners with municipalities, businesses, universities, organizations and other community groups to host the events.
Officials say the mobile units can also be deployed when needed to help prevent disruptions in DMV services.
