Teresa Laverne (Feather) Staggs, 76, of Wayne City

Teresa Laverne (Feather) Staggs, 76, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit in Fairfield, IL.  Teresa was born on June 26, 1950 in Flora, IL to LaVern & Freida (Wood) Feather.  She married Kent Staggs, who survives.

Teresa earned her Master’s degree in Special Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and worked as a special education teacher for over 30 years.  She was a former member of the Gamma Upsilon chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and a member of Al-Anon.  She attended the First Christian Church in Wayne City and later attended the Church of the Harvest in Wayne City.

She enjoyed camping, water skiing, and she was a devout St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.  She volunteered to lead several children’s activities in the community over the years, which included: Cheerleading Coach, Youth Group Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and several others.  She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Teresa is survived by her husband Kent Staggs, her father LaVern Feather, her son Tyrell Johnson, her daughters: Erin (Staggs) Wallace & husband Steve and Shayna (Staggs) Loker & husband Roger; her grandchildren: Jonathan Wallace, Isaac Loker & wife Ellie, Adam Loker, Brylynn Wallace, Rainey Loker, Nova Loker, and Seth Loyd; her great-granddaughter Hattie Loker, her sister Gayle Feather, her brother Brett Feather, her mother-in-law Ruth Staggs, and her sister-in-law Sherry (Staggs) Sigelman & husband Steve.

She was preceded in death by her mother Freida Feather and her brother Rick Shook.

Funeral services for Teresa Laverne (Feather) Staggs will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 12, 2026 at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City, IL with Bro. Troy Shook officiating.  Visitation will be held at the chapel on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Teresa’s memory to “Delta Kappa Gamma” and write on the memo line “Gamma Upsilon Chapter scholarship” which will be used for scholarships for future teachers.
