More than 122,000 cases of Gatorade have been voluntarily recalled across 37 states, including Illinois, due to undeclared food dyes, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recall, initiated by PepsiCo, affects 122,021 cases of 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero. FDA officials say the affected products contain Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6, artificial food coloring additives that were not properly listed on the product labels.
The recall was initiated September 25 and received a Class II designation from the FDA on October 2. A Class II recall means exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, while the likelihood of serious health problems is considered remote.
The recalled beverages were distributed to 37 states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, Ohio and several other states across the country.
The recall involves specific product lots with dates ranging from April through June 2027. Consumers are encouraged to check their Gatorade bottles against the affected lot numbers listed in the FDA’s recall notice.
The recall highlights potential concerns for individuals who are sensitive to certain artificial food dyes, including Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6.
