WAYNE COUNTY JAIL RECEIVES PERFECT SCORE ON ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION

The Wayne County Jail has received a perfect score of 100 percent following its annual fall inspection conducted by the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The inspection was performed by the department’s Jail and Detention Standards Unit, which evaluates correctional facilities to ensure they meet state requirements.

Illinois law requires all county jails and detention centers to undergo annual inspections, with the findings made available to the public.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department has implemented several improvements at the jail in recent years, including the installation of a contactless inmate monitoring system earlier this year.

The system tracks inmate movement, cell occupancy, heart rates and respiratory rates. An alarm is activated if an inmate’s biometric readings begin to decline, allowing jail personnel to respond to potential medical emergencies.
Last year, the Sheriff’s Department also introduced an electronic mail service designed to reduce the possibility of contraband entering the facility.

The Wayne County Jail has a capacity of 28 inmates.
