The Illinois Basin Celebration will return to Oblong next month, bringing together regional oil industry professionals for a day of safety training, networking and educational activities. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4th with complimentary coffee and donuts in the morning, followed by a catered lunch. This year’s celebration will place a special emphasis on workplace safety, with optional, hour-long workshops beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Mark Weiler will present a session on general oilfield safety, while Illinois Eastern Community Colleges instructor Wes Taylor will provide training on hydrogen sulfide, also known as H2S, and CPR. The Illinois Petroleum Resources Board will also host museum tours and educational presentations through its Petro Pros program.
Twenty-five students from Oblong Junior High School are scheduled to attend November 4th followed by 23 students from Hutsonville High School and Newton St. Thomas Grade School on November 5th.
Organizers are encouraging local oilfield operators and industry professionals to participate in the student presentations and bring equipment for demonstrations.
Those attending the celebration will receive complimentary Illinois Basin Proud merchandise, including stocking caps and coffee tumblers. More than 40 industry professionals have already registered for the event.
Anyone planning to attend the catered lunch is asked to reserve a seat by contacting organizers or responding to the event announcement email.
Those who register in advance will also be entered into a drawing for a $250 gift card.
