Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel will offer discounted low-dose lung CT screenings on Saturday, November 7th as part of an effort to encourage early detection of lung cancer.
The screening event will take place from 9 until 11 a.m. at Wabash General Hospital, located at 1418 College Drive in Mt. Carmel.
The cost of the screening is $75, with cash payment only. No physician referral is required.
According to the hospital, lung cancer often develops with little to no symptoms, making early detection especially important. Low-dose CT screenings can help identify potential signs of lung cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment may be more effective.
Individuals may qualify for the screening if they are between the ages of 50 and 80, are current smokers or have quit smoking within the past 15 years, and have a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years.
A pack-year is calculated by multiplying the number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day by the number of years a person has smoked. For example, smoking one pack per day for 20 years equals a 20 pack-year history.
