90 year old Fairfield resident, Arvis Albert Aman, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana, just five days short of his 91st birthday.

Arvis was born on October 25, 1935, in Limestone County, Texas, to Elgie Otho “E. O.” and Sallie (Rand) Aman. He married Wilma Samford on November 23, 1955, at the Church of Christ in Fairfield. Together, they shared nearly 71 years of marriage and raised five children.

A 1954 graduate of Fairfield Community High School, Arvis went on to earn a degree in air transportation from Parks Air College. A lifelong pilot, he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, continuing a family tradition that extended to two of his sons and a grandson.

Although Arvis lived most of his life in Illinois, he always considered himself a Texan. His Texas roots remained close to his heart, and he was especially thrilled when his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Aman, was born a Texan.

Arvis devoted his working life to the oil business, working alongside his father and son at Aman Well Servicing. His career reflected his commitment to hard work and the family business shared across generations.

Faith and service were central to Arvis’s life. An active member of Fairfield First Christian Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent. He also served as a board member and supporter of the Fairfield Public Library.

Arvis is survived by his wife, Wilma; his five children, Bradley Alan (Sue Ann) Aman, Pamela Dian (Joe) Holman, Rodney A (Pam) Aman, Douglas A (Julie) Aman, and Gregory Arvis (Laurie) Aman; his sister, Janie Wallace; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Eldon Doty, and Ruth and Bob Temple.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Guy (Tiffany) Aman, Michael (Megan) Aman, Sallie (David) Noellsch, Nathan (Stacey) Holman, Bryce (Leah) Holman, Christopher (Gareth) Aman, Alexander (Teny) Aman, Audrey (Gustavo) Galvan, Claire (Connor) Ladig, and Grace (Jaydon) Payment; and 10 great-grandchildren: Harper Holman, Hudson Holman, Joanna Aman, Henry Aman, Joseph Aman, William Noellsch, August Noellsch, Elizabeth Aman, Greyson Galvan, and Toros Aman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E. O. and Sallie Aman; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Raymond and Edna Samford, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenny and Kevan Stum; his brother-in-law, Kyle Wallace; and his nephew, Brett Wallace.

Arvis leaves a legacy of faith, hard work, service, and devotion to his family.

A private graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Public Library.
