The Grayville City Council held a brief meeting Monday night, approving several items, including a tax increment financing agreement with the Grayville School District, changes to cemetery regulations and a request for an upcoming Veterans Day-related fundraiser.
Council members approved a $50,000 TIF agreement with the Grayville School District. The agreement had previously been tabled during the council’s October 12 meeting.
Under new business, the council approved an ordinance amendment allowing grass markers at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The amendment provides greater flexibility for the placement of grass markers throughout the cemetery while maintaining certain placement restrictions. Foot markers will not be permitted under the revised ordinance.
Council members also approved a request from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion to observe Poppy Day on Saturday, November 7.
Mayor Travis Thompson said representatives from the veterans organizations are expected to be stationed at Grayville’s four-way stop from approximately 8 a.m. until noon.
Motorists traveling through the intersection will have an opportunity to make donations and receive a poppy in recognition of military service members who have died or suffered during wartime.
The council also approved a TIF agreement totaling $4,722.90 for Steels Estates, located at 116 East North Street.
The project includes heating and air conditioning improvements, along with partial roof replacement.
The next regular meeting of the Grayville City Council is scheduled for Monday, November 9, at 7 p.m.
