Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel has once again received national recognition for the quality of its orthopedic care, earning a Five-Star Rating for Hip Fracture Treatment from Healthgrades for the ninth consecutive year.

Healthgrades, a national resource for information about physicians and hospitals, recognized Wabash General Hospital for its continued performance in treating patients with hip fractures and achieving positive patient outcomes.

The recognition places the hospital among a select group of healthcare facilities nationwide that have consistently demonstrated high-quality care for patients suffering hip fractures.

Hip fractures often require immediate medical attention, specialized orthopedic treatment and extensive rehabilitation to help patients recover and regain mobility.

According to Healthgrades, the ratings are based entirely on patient outcomes rather than surveys or hospital reputation.

The organization evaluates hospitals using objective clinical measures, including risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates, across numerous medical conditions and procedures.

Healthgrades’ 2027 analysis found that if all hospitals nationwide had performed at the level of five-star-rated facilities during the 2023 through 2025 study period, an estimated 227,229 lives could have been saved and 158,138 complications avoided.

The recognition highlights Wabash General Hospital’s continued commitment to providing orthopedic services to patients throughout Wabash County and surrounding Southern Illinois communities, including Wayne, Edwards and White counties.

Hospital officials say the achievement reflects their ongoing dedication to quality patient care and successful treatment outcomes.
