Authorities in Indiana and Illinois are searching for a Posey County, Indiana man wanted in connection with the murder of his wife. The suspect reportedly has connections to residents in Carmi, Illinois.

54-year-old Paul D. Harnishfeger Sr. of Stewartsville, Indiana, is wanted on a first-degree murder charge following the discovery of his wife’s body on Sunday, October 25.

According to authorities, Chasity Harnishfeger was found dead inside her Posey County residence after law enforcement officers were requested to conduct a welfare check.

Stewartsville is located less than 20 miles east of Grayville, just south of Interstate 64.

The investigation has also raised concerns in White County, where Carmi resident Robyn Clevenger reported that Harnishfeger had recently threatened both her and her boyfriend.

Clevenger told Indiana authorities that Harnishfeger had harassed her at her residence and threatened her boyfriend at his workplace.

According to reports, the couple knew Harnishfeger through their involvement in area demolition derbies.

Investigators were told that Chasity Harnishfeger had previously spoken with Clevenger’s boyfriend about personal struggles involving alcoholism and addiction. The suspect reportedly believed those conversations indicated an affair.

Clevenger has expressed concerns for her safety and reportedly left Carmi temporarily because of the alleged threats.

Harnishfeger has been formally charged with first-degree murder, and a judge has set bond at $1 million.

Authorities warn that Harnishfeger should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who encounters him is urged not to approach or attempt to apprehend him.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact the Posey County Sheriff’s Department at 812-838-1320.
