The Clothesline, Fairfield Ministerial Alliance, and Midwest Food Bank will sponsor the annual Union Thanksgiving Service this Sunday at 6 p.m. at New Beginnings Church in Fairfield.
Pastor Jake Wicks of the Fairfield Wesleyan Church will serve as the guest speaker. Music will be provided by the New Beginnings Church Praise Team, with special music performed by Valerie Brown.
A freewill offering will be collected during the service to support the distribution of 425 food baskets to area families in need.
Organizers say approximately $17,000 is needed to fund this year’s food basket program.
In addition to monetary contributions, students at North Side School in Fairfield are collecting canned food items that will be included in the baskets.
The Fairfield Rotary Club and Lions Club will also assist the Clothesline with assembling and distributing the food baskets.
This year’s food distribution is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, from 7 until 10 a.m., at the former Midwest Food Bank building, located at 605 Southwest 10th Street in Fairfield. The building is now owned by the City of Fairfield.
Organizers are encouraging all area churches to participate in Sunday’s Thanksgiving service or have a representative attend as a show of community support.
Those wishing to contribute financially to the food basket program may drop off donations at the Clothesline, located at 112 West Main Street in Fairfield, or mail contributions to The Clothesline, P.O. Box 15, Fairfield, IL 62837.
Checks should be made payable to the Clothesline.
The annual effort brings together local churches, service organizations, students, and volunteers to help provide food assistance to hundreds of families during the holiday season.
