Illinois State Police Troop 9 has released the results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols conducted during October across six Southern Illinois counties.
According to Troop 9 Commander Captain Bruce Waggoner, the special enforcement patrols were conducted in Clay, Effingham, Lawrence, Marion, Wayne, and White counties, focusing on detecting impaired drivers and individuals illegally transporting alcohol or drugs.
During the enforcement effort, troopers issued a total of 26 citations or arrests and 141 written warnings.
The reported enforcement activity included two DUI citations, nine other alcohol or drug-related offenses, 41 speeding violations, 45 registration violations, and 18 driver’s license violations.
The additional patrols are designed to identify dangerous driving behaviors, particularly those involving alcohol and drug impairment, while improving safety on area roadways.
Illinois State Police remind motorists that alcohol and drug impairment are contributing factors in more than 47 percent of fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.
The October ACE patrols were funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and prevent traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
