Motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 57/64 through Mt. Vernon will need to use an alternate exit beginning Thursday, November 12th, as construction continues at the Illinois Route 15 interchange.
According to a construction notice shared Thursday by the City of Mt. Vernon, the northbound Exit 95 ramp to Illinois Route 15 will be closed from November 12th through November 30th.
During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Exit 94 at Veterans Memorial Drive, then follow the posted detour along 45th Street to reconnect with Illinois Route 15.
The closure is part of the ongoing interchange improvement project, which includes construction of a new diverging diamond interchange designed to improve traffic flow and safety in the area.
Additional construction work near the connection to Illinois 15 will take place outside peak traffic hours to minimize disruptions.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, reduce speed, watch for changing traffic patterns, and follow posted detour signs when traveling through the construction zone.
The northbound Exit 95 ramp is scheduled to remain closed through Monday, November 30th.
